Message From Warden

Northcote Hall is a caring community with diverse cultures. In the year 2019/20, ‘Care’, ‘Diversity’ and ‘Innovation’ are introduced to the Northcote Hall as core values, which is hoped to be embodied by all residents. In order to commemorate and manifest these core values, each floor is named after the Chinese characters of Northcote Hall, Care, Diversity and Innovation.

As the first core value, Care is not only shared amongst our residents, but it is also extended to our university and to the community. With the hope of spreading care and reciprocating the society, we have been cooperating with the charitable organizations in running a wide range of projects and events. Diversity is also greatly valued by us. It is a virtuous attribute of being inclusive and respectful; therefore, we have been inviting people with a range of speakers for our hallmates. We hope to engage our hallmates in exchanging ideas, embracing one another’s differences and therefore having different cultures respecting the heterogeneity positively. Lastly, Innovation is also one of Northcote Hall’s esteemed values. We endeavor to make changes in the established, and hope to see our hallmates bringing novelty and creative ideas that break into our community and making Northcote Hall a better place for all.

We believe that dormitory is not only a place that merely provides accommodation, but it is also an exciting phase of lives that our beliefs are nurtured. Under the roof of Northcote Hall, residents could construct their values, build meaningful friendships and gain enriching experiences for life.

Recalling the past, dormitory is where I spent most of my youth on. I had stayed in dormitory for a long time as both a student and hall tutor. It was probably the best time of my life which I learnt, grew and flourished. I wish that Northcote Hall will also become the best time of your life too.
